TOURIST AND VISITOR VISAS

The Tourist Visa is for people who wish to come to Australia to travel the country, explore Australia's landscape, culture and history, and/or visit friends or relatives. Holders of this visa are not entitled to work in Australia.
To be eligible for a Tourist/Visitor Visa you must: |

ü Be a genuine visitor
ü Not be entering Australia for business purposes or medical treatment ü Intend to come to or remain in Australia only as a tourist or to visit relatives/friends ü Have adequate funds to support yourself ü If applying in Australia, have substantially complied with the conditions
on your last visa ü Meet health, character, public interest and any special return requirements. |
Tourists will normally be issued with a "short-stay" visa, or an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), which will allows you to stay in Australia for up to 3 months at a time. An ETA is equivalent to a visa, but there is usually no stamp or label in your
passport and no need to visit an Australian diplomatic office to submit an application.
If you hold a passport from an eligible country, you can apply for your ETA online.
An ETA is valid for 12 months and allows you to spend up to 3 months at
a time in Australia.
You can apply for an ETA if you hold a passport from one of the following countries:

All passport holders from other countries must apply for a visitor visa by lodging a
paper application.
